Classification Status (Global)

Value selected from a drop-down menu that indicates the status of the Element in relation to the standard classification.

Domain values:

For species:
Standard - the Element has been formally recognized, described, and accepted by the standard classification.
Nonstandard - the Element has been addressed but not accepted by the standard classification.
Provisional - the Element has not yet been formally addressed and accommodated (by acceptance or rejection) in the standard classification.

For communities: The status of the Element in relation to the standard International Vegetation Classification (IVC) or International Terrestrial Ecological System Classification.
Standard - the Element has been formally recognized, described, and accepted by NatureServe Central Ecology as a standard Element.
Nonstandard - the Element has not been accepted by NatureServe Central Ecology as a standard Element (i.e., the Element does not follow a standard classification). Nonstandard Elements currently include types developed by NatureServe that will not become IVC types or Ecological Systems, as well as those developed by NHPs/CDCs. For NHP/CDC nonstandard Elements, complete the Standard/Nonstandard Relationships grid. Nonstandard Elements are not reported on NatureServe Explorer.
Provisional - the Element is a candidate for acceptance into the standard classification, but has not yet been reviewed by Central Ecology for inclusion in the IVC and/or peer-reviewed for inclusion in the USNVC. Provisional Elements are not always reported as part of the IVC and are only returned in NatureServe Explorer searches when "Include provisional ecosystems" is checked.
