Unlinking one or more Element Occurrence (EO) records from one subnational Element Tracking record (EST) and re-linking them to another EST can be done via the EO Working List by using the Re-parent Selected EOs option.
NOTE: This functionality requires the logged-in User to belong to a User Group with Edit EO permission of the appropriate element type (Animal, Plant, Community). The button will not be visible to users lacking the necessary Edit EO permission. Users with the necessary permission but limited to a given element type will receive an error indicating they are not authorized to edit the specified record.
The Re-parent Selected EOs function on the EO Working List Tools menu works as follows:
If no EOs associated with the Element you're switching TO have the same EO Numbers, the old EO Numbers are retained. For example, you move EOs 2, 7, 10, and 19 from Element A to Element B, which had no existing EOs. The EOs associated with Element B will be numbered 2, 7, 10, and 19.
If some of the old EO Numbers clash with those of EOs for the new Element, numbers that clash will be reassigned the next available EO Number and others will be retained. For example, you move EOs 2, 7, and 10 from Element A to Element B, which has EOs numbered 1, 2, and 3. Old EO Number 2 gets changed to 4, and 7 and 10 retain their numbers. The EOs associated with Element B will be numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10.
If all the old EO Numbers clash, they all get renumbered starting with the next available EO Number for the new associated Element, but not backfilling any gaps.
If you add new EOs to Element B in scenario 1, they will get consecutive available numbers, starting with 1. (e.g., 1, 3, 4,5,6, 8, 9, 11, 12, etc.)
If you add new EOs to Element B in scenario 2, they will also get consecutive available numbers (e.g., 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, etc.)
If you do not like having large gaps between nonconsecutive EO numbers (as may be created in scenarios 1 or 2 for EO numbers that do not clash and are retrained), you can change the EO Number of one or more EOs by doing an SQL update after running Re-parent Selected EOs function. Any subsequently created EOs will be assigned the next consecutive number. There is no need to update the NEXT_EO_NUM seed table.
Within the EO Working List window indicate the checkbox associated with the desired EO record(s) and click the Re-parent Selected EOs button.
The Search for Elementdialog will open, restricted to subnational results.
Search for the desired Element and select the EST from the results (multi-select is disabled) by clicking anywhere on the associated line, except for the Element ID. Clicking the Element ID will open the Element Subnational record.
The results dialog appears indicating the Status of the re-parenting process. In the case shown below there were no EOs previously associated with the new EST. Therefore, the Updated EO Number is the same as the Original EO Number. However, if there are EOs, the EO Number of the EOs beingreassigned are updated to the next available number. The changed numbers appear in boldface.
The working list is updated with new Element name and EO Number, as is the EO detail record. The associated Source Feature(s) are also relinked to the new EST.
NOTE:
The application will not prevent you from reassigning EOs to an EST for a different subnation. This may be a concern in multi-jurisdictional databases.
If EOs from more than one jurisdiction are being switched to a different Element, the re-linking must be done in batches, subnation by subnation.
